INSEAD - Lee Kuan Yew Partnership

Lee Kuan Yew

INSEAD and the Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, are partnering to provide students with a continuation pathway from the INSEAD MBA to the LKY School MPA and vice versa.

This relationship will enable students from INSEAD to branch out into public administration, and students from the LKY School into business administration. INSEAD students from both campuses - Fontainebleau, France and Singapore - will be eligible to participate in this collaboration.

The combination of the two programmes will provide students with an outstanding foundation in both business and public policy which is a great advantage for students seeking positions in economic and development institutions, government agencies, NGOs, as well as private sector roles; in particular in businesses where government institutions play an instrumental role.
Both INSEAD and LKY will offer their career and student services to students participating in the collaboration. These services will be available from the time the student matriculates at either institution until completion of both degree programmes.

This partnership does not lead to a dual-degree, but does allow students to complete the MPA and MBA in two years. The collaboration will provide students, where possible, with partial credit for a limited number of overlapping courses.

Programme Structure and Academics

Students have the following options as regards structuring the programme:

1. The first full year at LKY in Singapore (end August-July), the second full-year at INSEAD (Sept-July).
2. The first full year at INSEAD (Sept-July) followed by the second year at LKY in Singapore (end August until July the following year).

Whilst students can start the respective programme at either school, they cannot break up the year at INSEAD nor at LKY.

A student completing the standard LKY MPA degree must complete at least 40 graduate-level modular credits (MCs) by completing at least 10 modules, comprising six core modules (24 MCs) and four electives (16 MCs). Most full-time MPA students read four modules each in the two regular semesters and two modules in the Special Term, which is a condensed semester that runs from mid-May to mid-July.

For students participating in the partnership between LKY and INSEAD, LKY will allow substitution of two core modules with two electives, in recognition of the relevance of the courses taken at INSEAD.  LKY students will be allowed to exempt up to three core courses  at INSEAD without taking the exam if students obtain a B or above in similar courses at LKY.

Once the INSEAD graduation requirements are met, INSEAD will grant the MBA degree to the student, irrespective of the student’s degree progress at LKY and vice versa.
Students will receive two diplomas, one from each school.

Admissions & Financing

Admissions processes for INSEAD and LKY School remain separate; candidates must apply to both schools and will need to meet the regular admissions requirements of both schools. There are no earmarked places at either school for students.

Current students at either school can apply to the other school to go through this partnership. Students admitted to both programmes are considered to be part of the partnership.
Students will pay the regular tuition fees for the INSEAD MBA, plus the regular tuition for two-plus semesters at LKY.  There are no specific scholarships for these students but they can apply for financial aid from both schools through the regular process.
